Death prediction of polaris
Astronomers have predicted that in about 5 million years Polaris (or the north star) will run out of fuel. Polaris is classified as a massive star, so when this eventually does happen it will turn into a red supergiant. Astronomers predict that polaris will blow off its outer shell, causing the helium on the inside to start burning, then the heavier elements, until it is primarilly all iron. After around another million years or so, the core will explode, causing a supernova. Eventually, Polaris's remaining core will contract, and most likely become a neutron star.
